National Museum of Saudi Arabia
Gardens of Arriyadh |
International success came in 1996 with the winning of the international design competition for the National Museum of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh. Working together with our associate firm of architects, we provided a master plan that restores Riyadh as an oasis in the desert. Our green ribbon of parks and landscapes through the capital city's historical and cultural centre impressed City officials not just as a strategy for improving its image but also for encouraging residential, cultural, and mixed-use development. The commission to formulate a comprehensive development plan for the Wadi Hanifah soon followed. The urban watershed system has sustained Riyadh with water since its beginnings but has been severely damaged by human activity. Our development plan presents strategies for restoring the health of the system, cleaning urban waste water, transforming Riyadh's relationship with its most significant natural feature, and paving the way for new urban, agricultural, open space and tourism developments will then be possible. Construction of projects to restore the health of the waterway through naturalization and bio-remediation is now underway, with our firm's principals making periodic trips to Riyadh to oversee construction. | |||||
